1700s ------------------------------

1715: Wm. Derham: Astro-Theology...Being & Attributes of God from a Survey of the Heavens. An example of some books of this period declaring that the heavens declare the glory of God. Includes lunar map.

1775: T Mayer: The first accurate lunar map, being based on measurements of crater positions, and drafted by a skilled cartographer. First? map gridded with latitude and longitude lines.

1787: W Herschel: "An Account of three volcanos in the Moon". Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. Most famous reports of putative eruptions on the Moon.

1789: Russell: Construction of the first? globe of the Moon.

1791, 1802: JH Schröter: Selenotopographical Fragments - The first detailed study of the Moon, by a German lawyer and fanatical observer; unfortunately he was a somewhat poor draftsman and his different drawings of the same crater led him to believe that changes were common on the Moon.
