Sheet 4 of Lohrmann's map, published by Schmidt in 1878. The sheet shows Archimedes and the Appenine Mountains. Lohrmann was a careful observer and a fine draftsman - his map is one of the most attractive ever drawn.
Enlargement of sheet 4 to show the mysterious crater Linne. Lohrmann mapped it as a typical 10 km wide crater, but Schmidt announced in 1866 that the crater had disappeared. This is the most famous - or infamous - case of a change on the Moon.
