A transition book, mixing the old (still valuable material on dynamics of the Moon, photometry, eclipses, etc.) with the new geologic approach to the Moon (Shoemaker on "Interpretation of Lunar Craters"). Kopal was one of the leading figures in lunar research in the 1960s before Apollo. He was a professor of Astronomy at the University of Manchester, UK, and organized many conferences and edited a number of lunar books.
