Yesterday I received this image in an email from Ralf. He said that while he was imaging the Moon this region came into view and he imaged it, but later could not remember where on the Moon it was. He asked for my help in identifying it. I looked at it and thought it had an ethereal sort of tone with mare to the right (east or west?) and a mare-floored crater to the upper left. The crater near the center is definitely weird, looking almost like it moved during the exposure, ending up with a double rim. I wondered if this was a belated April Fool’s joke with a farside image. And then it popped into my head where the region is, and a look at Rükl’s [http://www.lpod.org/?page_id=102 Atlas of the Moon] confirmed it. Can you identify this region? I’ll give you a hint or two. The image was taken within the last 30 days… And notice the craters are relatively round - it isn’t of an area too near the limb. And mare filled craters are not terribly common on the nearside. If you think you know where it is post your answer in the comments area below, and while you are down there, click an LPOD sponsor or two! I’ll post the answer - or confirm the corrent one/s - Friday evening in the comments section.
